Steve Larson

The Bay 36" x 42" - $3,600

A Salt Lake City native, Steven studied painting at the University of Utah and was awarded a fellowship grant in 2005.  He has exhibited consistently for the past ten years, garnered awards from plein-air competitions, and is represented by notable galleries on both East and West coasts.  His paintings are housed in major collections, nationally and abroad.  The cities in his paintings reflect, like the ghostly figures that inhabit them, transient states of evolution and change.  His paintings illustrate delicate balances between control and non-control, detail against vagueness, and opaqueness vs. transparency.

Cristall Harper

Cristall Harper | Wink - $155

Cristall Harper graduated with her BFA in Painting from Brigham Young University in 2002.  She worked various jobs from tech support to teaching and finally put that behind her in 2007 to pursue art full-time.  She has a studio in American Fork, UT and there are usually two easels up with paintings in the works and tables full of cropped photos, paint swatches and various sketches littering the surfaces.  Her yellow lab, Buttercup, is her studio buddy and is her inspiration behind the quaint dog pieces that Alpine Art carries.

To watch Cristall paint is to see color and form come to life: she jumps from a highlight here to a shadow there and in a matter of hours, she steps away from the easel and there is a finished painting.  She works quickly to keep her work fresh and “un-fussed”; she says “my great satisfaction comes when the painting is just as interesting up close as it is from far away because the paint is allowed to be paint: thick, patch-worked, and luscious.”
