Ted remington art exhibition may 2025

The Art of Pastel

Featuring the artworks of Ted F. Remington
Opening Reception: Friday, May 16th, 6–9 PM
The exhibition will hang until June 13th, 2025

Gallery Location: Alpine Art & Frame 430 East South Temple

Ted F. Remington's work pulses with immediacy, energy, and light. Working primarily in pastels, Remington conjures vivid, emotionally resonant landscapes that blur the line between representation and abstraction. With a palette both bold and nuanced, he translates the natural world into compositions that feel at once familiar and dreamlike.

Remington’s landscapes are not mere depictions of place—they are distillations of atmosphere, memory, and motion. In one moment, a horizon blazes with saturated reds and ochres; in another, a winding river cools the eye in shades of blue and green. While rooted in real-world environments, his works often dissolve into abstraction, emphasizing texture, movement, and form over strict realism. This shifting balance between representation and abstraction invites the viewer to not just see the landscape, but to feel it.

"Fragments and Formations", is an evocative and thought-provoking group exhibition showcasing the works of three distinguished artists—Bill Lee, Frank McEntire, and Darryl Erdman. This exhibition delves into the intricacies of structure, abstraction, and the notion of deconstruction and reassembly, offering a visual dialogue that challenges the perception of form and space.

The exhibition features a dynamic and varied selection of works from three artists whose distinct approaches to material and medium converge in their exploration of fragmented compositions and the processes of formation.

Magical Realism: Art Works by Chris Miles

January 17th – February 27th, 2025
Opening Reception: Friday, January 17, 6–9 PM
Gallery Location: Alpine Art & Frame 430 E South Temple, Salt Lake City, 84111

We are thrilled to announce Magical Realism, a new exhibition by artist Chris Miles, marking his return to Utah after twelve years in California. This show celebrates both Miles’ personal journey and his evolving artistic vision, as he reflects on his move back to the Wasatch Mountains, the landscapes of his youth, and the influences that have shaped his creative practice.

“Ever since moving out to California in 2013 to take care of my twin daughters, Maya and Annika, I had expected that I would return back to Utah when they had graduated from high school,” says Miles. “I love skiing and the Wasatch Mountains, both of which had been subjects of many of my paintings before moving to Oakland. I’ve done a couple of small winter paintings since returning, which are in this show, and I plan to do many more ski and winter scenes in the coming years.”

Known for his bold, otherworldly depictions of nature and everyday life, Miles explores the intersection of reality and imagination. His work seamlessly blends the magical with the real, allowing viewers to experience the world through a dreamlike lens. His time in California, especially in the East Bay near the Pacific Ocean, has inspired new dimensions in his work. “I was amazed by the prehistoric-looking plant life, just walking around the neighborhood of my apartment in North Oakland on the border of Berkeley (I lived on Alcatraz Avenue!), and some of those plants found their way into my paintings,” he reflects. This influence can be seen in the piece Goodness, featured in the exhibition.

While in California, Miles worked closely with his daughters, nurturing their artistic talents. “We parents don’t make the most objective assessments of our kids, but they are both amazing artists,” he says. This unique experience of creating alongside his daughters has become an enduring source of inspiration.

The exhibition also honors Miles' return to Utah, where he is reconnecting with family, including his 93-year-old mother, an artist who instilled in him a deep love for drawing and painting at an early age. Miles’ work continues to be influenced by his familial ties, the majestic landscapes of the Wasatch Mountains, and his ongoing exploration of nature's mystical qualities.

In Magical Realism, Chris Miles invites the viewer to enter a world where the natural world is infused with an otherworldly glow. From the towering snow-capped peaks of Utah to the lush and strange flora of the Bay Area, his work captures the beauty and mystery that lies just beyond the surface of everyday life.

The exhibition will run from January 17th through February 27th, 2025. An opening reception will be held on Friday, January 17th, from 6–9 PM. Join us to meet the artist and experience this captivating collection of new works.
